Description

Description: This module introduces students to sensor-driven electric systems using a friendly, hardware-free platform. Learners start with a quick tour of inputs (light, temperature, motion) and outputs (LED, buzzer, fan). They will build simple logic flows such as “if dark and motion, then light on for 30 seconds.” They will experiment with thresholds and delays to avoid false triggers. They will compare series and parallel logic using multiple sensors and observe outcomes. They will document each design with a flowchart and a screenshot to build a learning portfolio. They will test a home-alarm scenario and write a brief explanation of how their rules reduce false alarms. They will complete extension challenges like energy-saving hallway lights during school hours only. They will reflect on privacy and safety considerations when sensors are used at home or school. They will finish with a short quiz and a peer review using a clear checklist. They will understand how smart rules connect to real circuits and everyday convenience.
Format: Block-based online simulator, flowchart templates, checklists, extension challenges, and quiz.
Duration: 2 class periods of 45 minutes.
What You’ll Learn: Inputs and outputs; conditional logic; timing; sensor thresholds; documentation; design for reliability and safety.
Target Audience: Upper elementary and middle school students interested in practical, modern applications of electrical control.
